Astrology
An extra, not the account. Begin, the work, and a type if you want a mirror, are the practice. Positions come from the same astronomy that points a telescope. The zodiac is tropical, measured from the equinox. Houses, when the clock is known, are whole sign. The reading under the wheel is a figure to think with, not a sentence about your fate and not a clinical test. Truth is larger than the figure. If a line makes you need an enemy, drop the line.
The Same Moment, Twice
A synchronicity is a meaningful coincidence that is not a cause. An inner state and an outer event arrive together. Nothing pushes the other. The link is the meaning they share. In Synchronicity: An Acausal Connecting Principle, Jung defined it as "a coincidence in time of two or more causally unrelated events which have the same or a similar meaning." The psyche and the world can say the same thing at the same time. He tied the idea, late, to his reading of the I Ching with Richard Wilhelm, and he tried an astrological count because he thought correspondence might show up in charts.
His picture was two clocks. They agree, and neither winds the other. He would not say a planet reaches down and manufactures a person the way a hand moves a piece. The hour of a birth and the sky of that hour are two faces of one quality of time. The life that unfolds from the hour corresponds to the figure. Correspondence is the claim. A mechanical cause is the claim he refused.
He tried to count it. He gathered charts of married people and looked for three classical contacts long said to mark a bond: sun with moon, moon with moon, and moon with the ascendant, in conjunction or opposition. The first batch showed more of those contacts than his line for chance. Further batches did not repeat the same contact. A different one stood out each time. He did not hide the shift. He read it as the inquiry itself behaving like a synchronicity: the figure that appeared was the one the question was aimed at. He did not call the count a finished proof. He still held the principle. In his hands, astrology belongs with meaning, not with mechanics.
The same principle is why a dream and a beetle at the window can be one event. A woman was telling a dream of a golden scarab. A scarab beetle struck the glass while she spoke. The outer event carried the inner image in with it, and the image was already the thing she would not admit. That is the use of a chart here. Not a verdict. A symbol that was already in the moment, held up where you can see it. If every sign agrees with your fear, you are not reading the sky. The fear is reading you.
